It's been interesting to hear this thing move through the week and change drastically from one iteration to the next. That example in mind, I decided not be too careful about preserving things that were working perfectly well form Arthur's version and just kind of intuitively feel my way toward a version closer to what I might write and sing. I could see an up close portrait of personal heartbreak in the first verse expanding toward a more general commentary on humans being social creatures in the chorus, then a sociological take starting to happen in the second verse. That seemed promising so I tried to sketch that a little further, but ran out of steam before landing the second pre chorus to fit that scheme. Patrick, I look forward to hearing what you will be inspired to make of this!

V1
I've been living lonely
With a one-track mind
You’re the only thing I think about
Now that our love has died
I've been counting petals
I've been counting white lies
Been remembering that faraway
Look in your eyes
PC
Though I know I’ll never regret
Living out on the edge with you
A broken heart isn’t cheap baby
It’s crazy the things we do
CH
Cause we don’t want to be alone
We need love like we need air
Without a little bit of that human touch
We’ve got nothing but despair
V2
Living in a big house
Here on a quiet street
Neighbors glance and they nod
But we don't talk when we meet
I’ve been counting lonely faces
I’ve been counting fallen trees
I just want you know
You can count on me
PC2
Somehow we’ve got turned around
Living out here on the edge
We’ve got to ………..
CH
Cause we don’t want to be alone
We need love like we need air
Without a little bit of that human touch
We’ve got nothing but despair
