One of the great joys of long-term MM3AM activity is the chance to try on lots and lots of musical hats. I really love using different rounds to explore different sounds and different approaches to songwriting. So much so, in fact, that I think it's possible that I've kind of lost track of my roots.
So for this round, I've dedicated myself to trying to find a bit of that core sound, if it even exists, anymore. I have a couple of key artists in mind, but I am most definitely NOT trying to ape anyone specific. I know that what I'm looking for is something a little pure-pop, a little power-pop, a little singer-songwriter, a little post-punk. And probably a bit more mainstream than I'd like to admit. We'll see where this goes. But I think I'm in the right ballpark with this first one.
Oh, and I am finally getting to play drums again, so I'm excited about that!
lyrics
Heard you called me from the old house yesterday
I was coming home from parts unknown
But you don’t answer when I call you, anyway
I don’t know
If I remember you
folded cards
Numbers lost
Notes you’ll never read
The hands you shook
Advice you took
Someday you might need
Did you never learn how to trust anybody?
Did you never learn to need anyone?
Days and nights alone just the promise of winter
To save you from the night
Caught a station through the static on the radio
They were calling for a freeze tonight
I was wondering how you might be holding up
No one knows
Who could reach you there?
folded cards
Numbers lost
Notes you’ll never read
The hands you shook
Advice you took
Someday you might need
Did you never learn how to trust anybody?
Did you never learn to need anyone?
Days and nights alone just the promise of winter
To save you from the night
