Bonus track for the week. Started out as a fairly typical track for me, a strummy, descending, Big Star-ish kind of thing. I slowed it down, tried the whispery approach, though I ended up veering, in this version, towards the upper octave melodies. If I can commit to one approach, I'll adjust the key, as this key doesn't really serve either octave of my limited range (especially after a weekend of gigs!).
Lyrically, it's got a long way to go, but the initial inspiration was Ed Bumgardner's reminder that this is the week of Cinco de Mosso. The narrative in this song (or at least the one that I'm just beginning to write) is not specifically autobiographical but is intended to reflect the sense of loss we all feel when left behind by those who have chosen to end their journey.
Like most of my "bonus" songs, this was done fairly quickly and is very unformed clay at this point. Unlike many of them, however, I have clear ideas about where I want to go with it; I just need time and luck to get it there.
