Bit of a bummer of a week. I can usually count on a vacation week to give me lots of quality time to develop new songs ideas. I had the time this week, but not the inspiration, it turned out. Came up with some 10-15 ideas, none of which particularly spoke to me. By the time I came up with this, I thought it had legs, but I was out of time to develop it. Might be worth a second draft; we'll see ...
lyrics
We start
You stop
We rise
You drop
False hope
Real fail
All top
No tail
You never felt clever
Not when it mattered much
Drink deep from dry deserts
Spread warmth from battered touch
No hoping, one eye open
You sleep as sound as you'd expect
Beneath your silk trap door
No monsters new since last you checked
Wish I had a way
to tell you what I thought I knew
ever since they burned down Eden
there's been a warrant out on you
keep saying what you want about
the pride before the fall
but it's not your fault
it's never been your fault
You're just running out of last calls
You don't mean that
All your words fall flat
You've been cut so long
It's all you know to do
You're the scorpion
I'm the tortoise once again
Sinking soundless in the
Arms of no one's friend
No one's friend
Wish I had a way
to tell you what I thought I knew
ever since they burned down Eden
there's been a warrant out on you
keep saying what you want about
the pride before the fall
but it's not your fault
it's never been your fault
You're just running out of last calls
