The harmonies and vibe of the _______had a big influence on me as my folks lead me from state to state as a kid. Stylistically it never really transferred into my own personal music but it's still in there. I tried to channel _______ as best I could. The singer of this song is a guy who knows he is bringing the girl he loves deeper into a world that she may not recover from as well as he can, and he "loves her too much to watch her wither".
lyrics
Safely Home
We had so much in common when we were young
Our painted sunset life had just begun
And every star shined as bright as the sun
Maybe we should have thought about it
That eventually we would both be better off without it
It’s clear to see what must happen now
I have to let you go so you can start a life
Without me
Without me
You got to find someone who can bring you back down
You got to find someone who can bring you safely home
Safely home, safely home
Safely home, safely home
Driving along the water you were quite
By the time we reached the edge of the forest you were crying
You said nothing of me and only blamed yourself
But I know you better
And I love you too much to watch you wither
It’s clear to see what must happen now
I have to let you go so you can start a life
Without me
Without me
You got to find someone who can bring you back down
You got to find someone who can bring you safely home
