about
Another all-too-typical MM3AM story: I wrote a promising tune early in the week, but didn't quite have time to bring it to fruition. Had a melody, a vibe, a general arrangement in mind. I wanted to do a duet with Molly, and I wanted it to have a nice folk-pop vibe. It sort of started in "You Belong To Me" territory, but quickly veered in a Civil Wars-ish direction. I tried to think of something honest for M and I to sing, and I thought of how our little girl is going through some anxiety issues. I wanted us to sing something soothing for her, some sort of talisman she could carry with her. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and never got beyond the roughest of drafts, lyrically, and then I didn't even have time to get together with M on it.
Still, I think it's a promising start.
lyrics
thoughts go round like
mice and cats in circles
chasing someone’s tail
round and round, we go
so deeper down, we sing
in minor scales
sing to me and
take it slow
sweetly as you go
something soft to
soothe my heart
a tune from long ago
sing me saving sounds
sing me back to ground
I can’t do it on my own
slow my heartbeat down
turn this car around
show me peace I’ve
never known
sometimes lightning
strikes on sunny days
and nothing to be done
helpless, helpless, thunder
all around, the
heat from thousand suns
nothing to be
done but sink into
this quicksand’s pull
close my fist and
shout your name
and fill my cup so full
sing me saving sounds
sing me back to ground
I can’t do it on my own
slow my heartbeat down
turn this car around
show me peace I’ve
never known
