I had high hopes for this week, and plenty of time to write. And I do kinda like this one, but it's true that it did come out a bit Doug-by-numbers, especially in terms of some of the more folk-oriented stuff I've been writing lately. This one, though, is more of a full-band, larger tune, at least in my mind. Maybe I'll throw it at the Magnolia Green guys and see if they can help me flesh it out ...
lyrics
You don’t wanna hear my voice
The last thing running round your head this morn
You don’t wanna let my reasons guide you
A rose with nought but thorns
You can always walk your bitter back
when better angels save the sin
But I can never change the depths I’ve charged
these waters never safe again
So sing your sad songs
From deep within your bones
All trapped inside these
lines that we’ve redrawn
I spend my nights, lost
Among the fields of stones
Just like the shape of the
Shadows I’ll be tracing when you’re gone
Standing on the edge of the cliffs, look over,
seeing where I’m gonna drown
Write another line in the sand just to tell you how I’m
Never gonna let you down
Once upon a time, I heard the story
Lights across the mountainside
Closer that you got, the dark took over
The groom will ever lose his bride
So sing your sad songs
From deep within your bones
All trapped inside these
lines that we’ve redrawn
I spend my nights, lost
Among the fields of stones
Just like the shape of the
Shadows I’ll be tracing when you’re gone
