Going in a TOTALLY different direction this round. I've been talking with a friend of mine for quite some time about doing a duo writing/recording project, and I've had a hard time finding my way in, for the writing process. I know that we want to do something somewhat soulful, somewhat pop, with a little bit of a rock edge. Sometimes you just need one good success to define a project, and I haven't gotten there yet, so I thought I'd use this round to try to work on finding that foothold.
I don't know that I'm any closer, after week one. I started with some classic Hall & Oates, and quickly ended up in Jackson 5 territory, with a little nod to Curtis Mayfield. I like this, and it was certainly fun to do, but I'm not sure it's the right flavor for the new project. We'll see ...
lyrics
I used to wander
I used to roam
Don’t know how it happened
but the luck rained down, and I
Found myself a home
Some blame the sinner
Some blame the sin
but every time I fall she just raise me up
And the love comes pouring in
How can I tell you
How deep it all goes
so lost without you, I know
It’s the shield, it’s the shelter
It’s the hand the heavens dealt her
It’s the refuge that I run to
every night and every day
I will pray and I will praise you
I will lift and I will raise you
don’t know what I’d ever do
if you took your love away
And when she’s feeling lowly
When she’s breaking down
Gonna be right there, ready
Turn her lonely days around
Cause everybody got hunger
Everybody got pain
Everybody needs a hand to hold
When the sunshine turns to rain
How can I tell you
How deep it all goes
so lost without you, I know
It’s the shield, it’s the shelter
It’s the hand the heavens dealt her
It’s the refuge that I run to
every night and every day
I will pray and I will praise you
I will lift and I will raise you
don’t know what I’d ever do
if you took your love away
