Well, Christopher Cross be damned, there's a major 7th chord in here, and it has a sailing metaphor, so there ya go. I thought I was heading out in Neal Finn territory, but it ended up in a fairly cliched torch-song space. Still, I think it has some promise for a small song.
lyrics
Felt the wind between these sails
Heard the ancient sailor’s tales
How they mapped the rocks below
Sought to sketch the undertow
Should have felt the current’s pull
Never felt a greater fool
How we dreamed of far-off lands
Crossed the desert’s mystic sands
How I’d chase you o’er the miles
Green atolls, deserted isles
Seemed so simple to believe
In fictions written to deceive
I remember
last transmission
heard the longing on your lips
tracing embers
floating skyward
we were only sinking ships
Oh, how the fantasies subside
Leave us drifting in the tides
Wondering how you got away
Find you on some shore one day
What could I expect to find?
Were you lost, or was I blind?
I remember
last transmission
heard the longing on your lips
tracing embers
floating skyward
we were only sinking ships
