G. Edward McBride - Ten Sixteen

about

This song is about US Air Flight 1016 that crashed in Charlotte on my wedding day July 2, 1994. We will never forget that crash as it is forever linked to our anniversary. 37 people died because of a microburst from a thunderstorm that blew the plane to the ground. The tower had reported to all incoming flights that this was a possiblity HOWEVER, they used a different frequency than what flight 1016 used. You can only wonder if they had used the correct frequency, would the plane have avoided trying to land and would those people still be alive? I went all Spacemen 3/Spiritualized on this and used a droning B and a lot of distortion, fuzz and tremolo. The wall of noise! I know this style of music is not everyone's bag and I'll probably get zero votes for the week but it evolved into this.

lyrics

Oh tower, oh tower
We're coming in way too fast
This fear that we're feeling, it's going to be our last

Oh tower, oh tower
Now why didn't you come through
If we just had your information now what else could we do

Wind shear thunderstorm
Frequency misinform
Falling fast to the ground
Devastation all around

37 bodies, were laid down in the rain
The tower, the storm, the radio
Now who is to blame
