Well, I got an early start on an idea this week; I believe I actually may have borrowed a riff from the last Lake Street Dive album, strangely enough. Life intervened, as it always does, and I didn't really get to pursue melodic/lyrical ideas until the last minute. I'm fairly happy with the melodies, but the lyrics are decidedly awful. I did managed to work in at least three ELO titles, though.
I'm going to try to spend this round developing potential songs for a possible horn-driven project; we'll see how it goes.
lyrics
Do you believe what you’re saying?
Do you believe what you do?
Do you believe anything you’ve ever wanted
Was worth the hearts you cut into two?
‘Cause it’s a damn shame
won’t take the blame
You can fall to pieces
Stand tough
Had enough
I’m your judge and jury
And the gavel’s coming down
Bring down the summer and lightning
Bring down the winter’s cold freeze
Bring everything that you’ve got to the table
Make sure we feel your disease
‘Cause it’s a damn shame
won’t take the blame
You can fall to pieces
Stand tough
Had enough
I’m your judge and jury
And the gavel’s coming down
Spend a little time in this town
You’ll take it with a grain of salt
I used to be the King Denial
It’s all my fault
But now that I can see in shadows
All the evidence is coming in
I gave you all the rope for hanging
You pulled it in
Time to pull the firing pin
You’ve got us walking your tightrope
Above the clouds, it’s so cold
But what we’ve got in the balance
You couldn’t buy with your gold
‘Cause it’s a damn shame
won’t take the blame
You can fall to pieces
Stand tough
Had enough
I’m your judge and jury
And the gavel’s coming down
Spend a little time in this town
You’ll take it with a grain of salt
I used to be the King Denial
It’s all my fault
But now that I can see in shadows
All the evidence is coming in
I gave you all the rope for hanging
You pulled it in
Time to pull the firing pin
