I have ALWAYS wanted to write this song because there is a cool story behind it. In the late sixties, my Mom was a hippie and she had an old green Peugeot 403 wagon that she and her sisters spray painted flowers and peace signs all over it. They named it "The Green Gizzard". She loved it because she said people would flash peace signs at them when they drove by. As much as I love sixties tunes, I've always wanted to write a song about this. My Dad was a biker after he came home from being drafted so I threw in the line about "the motorcycle boys". I used all my sixties tools on this one, the organ, my Twin Reverb with the reverb set to 10, the Ric 12 string, some surfy chops, tambourine, claps, oohs and aahs and yeahs, and oh yeah... FUZZZZZ!!!!...
lyrics
The year is 1968
These hippie chicks, they're running late
The time on the clock is getting real
Gotta grab the keys and hold the wheel
They're burning the roads in the Green Gizzard
They're flying so high in the Green Gizzard
It's a little green Peugeot 403
It's the craziest thing that you'll ever see
Painted up on hippie power
With peace signs and sunflowers
They're burning the roads in the Green Gizzard
You know, these chicks are on the prowl
Forget the past, they're living now
They'll hit the town and make some noise
Checking out them motorcycle boys
They're turning heads most everywhere
Some people laugh some people stare
The Gizzard's moving on down the line
Those in the know are flashing peace signs
They're burning the roads in the Green Gizzard
They're flying so high in the Green Gizzard
In the Green Gizzard
Yeah the Green Gizzard
