Inspired by an old tale from Labrador that was often used to scare kids into coming home quickly when the weather was bad... supposedly it's based on a real guy known as "Ol' Smoker" who lived near Black Tickle, close to Porcupine Bay

North of Quebec
Beside the Strait of Belle Isle
A fur trapper ghost
Roams the tundra wild
With eight white dogs
In bitter wind on his sleigh
He must atone for the sins
That slammed the afterworld gate

Through Labrador towns
He brought his cruel ways
And the richest of furs
To dodge the constable's gaze
He guzzled their mead
Three sheets to the wind
He tormented maidens
Provoked the town's men

Now he wanders alone
Across the desolate land
His phantom furs
Flapping in the wind
Wanderers lost
Shivering cold
Led by his sleigh
Will find their way home

None know for sure
How he met his demise
Did he freeze with his dogs
Or was he slain with a knife?
All they can tell
Is that he wanders and waits
In hopes that his deeds
Might unseal his fate

Once a fellow trapper
Blinded and bitten
Flirted with death
In a terrible blizzard
