about

Another potential song for this trio project we're working on.

Lyrically, I knew I wanted to do something with a local angle. I stumbled on this story - the love story of Neiman Zevely and Sophia Schober - that begins with the defiance of religious persecution and ends with a house driving up Trade St. I LOVE this story, and anyone living here or with an interest in the area should read this account by our own Fam Brownlee: northcarolinaroom.wordpress.com/2018/03/21/the-zevely-house-a-love-story/

At the end of the day, I wrote the wrong kind of music for this story, so I consider the end result a bit of a failure. But I like the music and arrangement for the trio project, and I love the subject matter for a song, so I'll probably separate the music and lyrics for two separate projects, when I get a chance to revisit it.

lyrics

I had a dream, I had a strange dream

that my house was full in motion
Can anybody dare to read the headlines

from the days to come?
Turned in all my paperwork

submitted all my plans
Just to find the word of god
Rejected our good banns
Apprentice to my masters

I have done what was required
But these single brothers keep me

from the heart I most desire

So it’s “yes” or “no” or “nothing” but

nothing’s gonna come between us

They can cast their Lot but Hannah, I swear

history will always redeem us

and it’s time to go home

Did you ever get the feeling you were
Living in the wrong time, there was
somewhere you should be
This love I can’t begin to temper can’t

refrain from all the light you mean to me
I’ll move you to the Petersbach

I’ll build a home of brick

we’ll live outside the law

outside the body politic
Cause I don’t need approval
From the men that judge my face

some day we’ll march broad streets
And take our place in courts of grace

So it’s “yes” or “no” or “nothing” but

nothing’s gonna come between us

They can cast their Lot but Hannah, I swear

history will always redeem us

and it’s time to go home
