This round will be dedicated to developing material for a possible new live project. Musically, the concept is to begin with upright-bass-and-kit grooves drawn from organic groove music from the likes of Soul Coughing, Medeski Martin & Wood, and Morphine, and combining that sort of bed with more melodic pop songwriting, a la something perhaps Neil Finn or Guster-ish. Not completely discouraged by this opening salvo, but we'll see!
lyrics
Take off your kid gloves
burn all your clothes
cover your tracks with fresh dirt
For there shall be no love
No sympathy pose
Drowned in an ocean of hurt
Three steps to starboard
abandon your post
Nobody’s promising peace
Sync all your watches
Be wary of spies
It’s gonna get hot in the crease
Hung my weary head up by the pauper’s tree
I never thought I’d see a weeping man
as simple as me
I heard a drowning man’s confession
‘neath a murder of crows
I know there’s nothing left
To save me so it’s time to go home
I’m going home
Some days you shake it
The memory fades
It’s good to get lost in the sun
A fleeting oasis
the hellhounds come crash
All of your peace come undone
Hung my weary head up by the pauper’s tree
I never thought I’d see a weeping man
as simple as me
I heard a drowning man’s confession
‘neath a murder of crows
I know there’s nothing left
To save me so it’s time to go home
I’m going home
