Well, I hope I can be forgiven for the usual complaint about time constraints this week, of all weeks. I started from what I think is a strong place - I wanted to work on a more contemplative solo piano piece from that same British art-rock school, but I wanted to marry it with the John Wesley-style block-chord hymns of my Presbyterian youth. Color me surprised when I learned that John Wesley was a graduate of the Charterhouse School, which any prog fan worth his weight in salt can tell you is also the alma mater of all those precocious Genesis boys! Guess that makes sense.

In any case, after spending a fair amount of time composing chordal voicings that I liked, I completely ran out of time until tonight to hurriedly throw together melody and lyrics. The melodies hold, I think, as they, by necessity are derived from the chords, but the lyrics, I assure you, are absolute place holders.

I wouldn't mind coming back and spending time on the lyrics, as I think it's essential to have words that carry the weight and prayerfulness of a piece like this.
