about

This one is for Susan Snow. I always wonder how people become homeless and helpless. I saw a cardboard sign the other day and the girl holding it had a very nice hairstyle and newer clothes. It was the kind of hairstyle that takes maintenance and money so it really made me wonder. I’ve also been witness to a couple of other folks that seem to keep making the same mistakes that could end up very disparaging for them. Society makes choices but we do too.

lyrics

There’s Nothing I Can Do

When I travel to my early days
And I see the things I’d do
And the sky was a different shade than now
And my younger eyes were too
They were so darn blue
There was nothing I could do

Well the innocence would fade away
As I left my mother’s arms
And all the things I chose to do
Brought the rain before the storm
Now I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

I remember very well the day my daddy died
He tried to teach our family to live a life with pride
Now the world has a hold of me
And just won’t let me go
And I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Now my hands are idle
With a family of my own
And they took the kids away from me
And left me all alone
And I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

I try to get back on my feet
And walk a thousand miles
To get back to my early days
Where it was OK to cry
‘Cause I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

I remember very well the day my daddy died
He tried to teach our family to live a life with pride
Now the world has a hold of me
And just won’t let me go
And I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

The city streets surround me
And my feet and hands are cold
And everyone that passes me
Wants to hear my story told
But I’ll just wait around here
For those promised streets of gold
‘Cause I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

I remember very well the day my daddy died
He tried to teach our family to live a life with pride
Now the world has a hold of me
And just won’t let me go
And I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do
Yes I’m so darn blue
And there’s nothing I can do

And I’m so darn blue
There’s nothing I can do
