I'm trying to write more contemporary pop tracks this round, and this is NOT the kind of thing I was wanting to work on. It's a very retro 80's pop kinda track - a little Janet Jackson, a little Jam-and-Lewis lite; heck, maybe a possible track for the long-awaited Jets reunion album. But, hey, you gotta follow the muse, right? And since I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday, I didn't have time to do anything but go with my first instinct. Still, this is kinda fun, up to a point. Lyrics are ABSOLUTE stream-of-consciousness dreck.
lyrics
There was a time when
I could have seen it coming
there was time when
I could have fell in line
but now it’s all changed
the spirit’s taken over
it’s feeling so strange
the things I thought were mine
So let’s take one step
Across the line we’re drawing
Those promises kept
those things that held us back
And when the time comes
You know we’re gonna know it
We’ll watch those dark times
The way they fade to black
And I can hear you
but something’s always in the way
If there’s a wall between us tear it down
Got a clear view
And I’m gonna make you mine someday
gonna hide my love right underground
til the time’s right
So let’s take one step
Across the line we’re drawing
Those promises kept
those things that held us back
And when the time comes
You know we’re gonna know it
We’ll watch those dark times
The way they fade to black
