about

Hey guys, this was a fun one, even though I didn't have as much time to work on it as I'd hoped. I took the story of Samson and Delilah and put into modern times in New Orleans. I was listening to Bob Dylan at the time and that definitely crept into the song. Also, I heard "Rain King" by Counting Crows and wanted to do a song in that vein. I like the direction but I definitely need to do more work. Maybe try and cut down some lyrics (it's pretty long).

lyrics

I passed through the capital
On the way to nyc
Traffic through the swampland was enough to make anyone crazy
But I’d rather be here than anywhere near you and your beauty

You can see him on the corner of tchoupitoulas and Napoleon Street
Holding a sign saying “I need money to eat”
Anyone that grew up in the Parrish knows him and his story

In the French quarter is where I heard he met you down by Jackson square
You were wearing a dress and you hinted that you didn’t have any underwear
Even though it wasnt too long ago
He looked much younger
With his long blonde hair

As I’m headed to Brooklyn I’m passing through Baltimore
Trying to wrap my head around the urge to call you a lady of the night
You ruined a life and now that life don’t even work anymore

I don’t want to speak to you
But I wanna ask what you did it for
Was it love at first and then when he was broken he didn’t look good enough anymore?
I’m writing you a letter I’ll never send asking why you kicked him out the door

Yeh he spends most of his time on a bench by Tipitinas uptown
He listens to the music and he thinks back to when his chance came around
And they say you made him choose between the art and you
and he weighed the odds and layed his piano down

I heard you said you missed him too much
Whenever he left to go out of town
He called you on the phone and you hinted you had some callers around
You said it every time and eventually
You wore him down

I’m still stuck in traffic
But I’m headed to my hotel by 8
Gonna see the city lights and I’m gonna forget for a while about that day
He was my friend and you used him
And there’s not much else to say

He hair is grown out again
Along with a big long beard
But it doesn’t look the same
As it did the last day he got it sheared
He came back to town went straight a barbershop and cut it off and put on a collared shirt for you and
got a job that wore him down to the ghost you see down at the shelter wear the law students volunteer

And now I hear your living in a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath
The spoils you reaped when the bomb exploded and the dust settled in the aftermath
Was it worth it or are you still waiting for the upgrade to jacuzzi from your porcelain bath?
