Funny that Mitchell and RCDD were talking about 911. When I first read the assignment I knew that's the only thing that made sense for me to write about. I didn't get much time to do the actual recording and work out the ideas (obviously) and this is a bit out of my comfort zone in terms of style - but I tried to be as honest and straight forward about my memories of that time and also what has happened since.

Smoke blew in our windows
For days and into weeks
The smell was toxic horrible

Eventually the trains ran
We ventured back to work
City on high and low alert

Beating of the war drums
anger, loss, Pride,

The city came together on those weeks and months
We cheered a firefighter in a restaurant
We held our heads high
New Yorkers never die
Same for Americans

Fourteen years later tell me what do you believe?

I'm a father now. What will I tell them
About that day?
How to explain the hate? Love?
How to share and teach so that maybe
Just one day maybe
We can stop this kind of senseless rage
