Ugh! This one is a stinker. Based on a true story. I had some ideas while I was away on a lovely Caribbean vacation. Then I got sick on the last day and have been coughing like crazy and sweating like a pig. I feel wretched and my brain is mush. So this is as far as I get before I go back to bed. :(
lyrics
The note stuck on the door
Said you couldn’t come down to meet me
The key is in the mailbox
Come on up to the top floor
And don’t say a word
When you see me
So I went up the stairs through a sacred gallery
With posters of your former selves all staring down at me
Defiantly in whipped cream or sullen dressed like candy
You were such a scene
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
You were born to raise your freak flag high
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
I could hear you coughing in the other room
In stormy fits so violent I felt a sense of doom
But I knew I’d see you soon
Then there came a silence and you softly appeared
I remembered how you’d glittered
On those stages through the years
But now you spoke in whispers
And struggled for each breath
For each breath
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
You were born to raise your freak flag high
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
You used to dazzle them with all your milky flesh
Now you’re covered up to hide
Those swellings of distress
And all the rest
You still dream of light
As life flows through your veins
You put on all your colors
and endure against the grain
You will rage into the night
As long as breath remains
Breath remains
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
You were born to raise your freak flag high
Too fast to live
Too strong to die
