This was certainly a challenge and I had no idea where to take it. So this is where I ended up.

It’s time to slap on my face
Time to put on my shirt
You know I feel so tired I could sleep all day
But I’m gonna get fired if I show up late
I got shades on my face
Rings on my fingers
Nodding my head as I listen to singers
Who tell me life is a dream

Gliding down the river of a consciousness stream
While I float in the tide of the daily commute
And wash up at my desk via the usual route
Then the boss has got a beef with the words that I wrote
Up against the deadline -got a knife at my throat

There’s got to be some meaning in the race to achieve

I keep going on and on, and on and on again

I go happy hour hunting with some people from work
We dish on the dirt
We drink and we flirt
Chatting with a stranger ‘bout some crap on the news
He rants about the danger then he kills it with booze
We talk freedom, we talk drugs
We talk prisons, we talk thugs
American dream, corporate scheme
Everybody’s angry and they’re ready to scream

I keep going on and on, and on and on again

As the light grows dim
Think I’ll go to the gym
Gotta get the blood pumping
Cuz I’m in it to win
So I find a machine
Program the pace
Fall into a rhythm
And I’m running in place
I look in the mirror
See the fog in my eyes
