Well, I guess I've gotten off my shoegazer plan this week, although I suppose you could technically try to cram this into a shoegazer arrangement.
I really set out this week trying to write something beautiful, something uplifting for the end of the year, but the combination of Patrick's drop-C assignment and this cold that's ravaged my voice (and mood) led me to a much darker place.
I've been reading about the Stones at Altamont and their earlier security issues, so that was on my mind. And then, the latest bits of domestic terrorism news ... So, what came out was a bit of a doom-and-gloom "reap-what-you-sow" kind of thing. Not specifically political in any way, though you're welcome to take it that way, if it fits, for you.
Again, apologies for what's left of the croak of my voice on this one ...
lyrics
front line
just a muscle, tight and tense
set to spring and snap
they’ll call it self-defense
all eyes
fixed upon your face
looking for a sign
a hangman’s signal trace
don’t cry
for the madness in descent
did you forgot it was your word
all the invitations sent
trance sung
incantations read
were you learning how to swim
when you turned the oceans red
careful what you pray in the darkness
dreaming by the light of the moon
trying to spill the blood from the heartless
daylight breaks your tripwire so soon
who brought
the candle to the flame
when they come to take you down
keep in mind from where you came
in the last light
when nothing’s what it seemed
was it everything you hoped
was it everything you dreamed
careful what you pray in the darkness
dreaming by the light of the moon
trying to spill the blood from the heartless
daylight breaks your tripwire so soon
