This tune was inspired by some combination of Tom Waits and Lou Reed, because the smoky haze in East Tennessee this weekend did some fun things to my voice, so I thought it might be best to just roll with it. Speaking of rolling with it, if you listen closely, you can also hear the only nylon D-string in the house snap on the last chorus.
lyrics
She started wavin like a church fan
Tappin her feet
We got a twenty dollar flat footer
Down on Main Street
You better belt out that song
You better lay down that beat
She come from Mule Barn Alley
And she's bringin the heat
Her daddy was a fiddler
And her momma played banjo
But she knew early on
That she was here for the dancin
Got that buck step, chicken scratch
Cornmeal on wood
Foot stompin, toe tappin
Fancy foot
She got that buck step, chicken scratch
Cornmeal on wood
Foot stompin, toe tappin
Fancy foot
She's raisin up the dead
In the Appalachian hills
And fillin up a pickle jar
With twenty dollar bills
You'll see her wavin like a church fan
Tappin her feet
She's the twenty dollar flat footer
Down on Main Street
You better belt out that song
You better lay down that beat
She come from Mule Barn Alley
And she's bringing the heat
She got that buck step, chicken scratch
Cornmeal on wood
Foot stompin, toe tappin
Fancy foot
She's got that buck step, chicken scratch
Cornmeal on wood
Foot stompin, toe tappin
Fancy foot
