So...this lyric doesn't make a ton of sense, and some of it needs work, but I kinda like it. I think it's about a spaceman, which tracks because I've been playing a lot of No Man's Sky and so a lot of my free time has been spent in a sci-fi spacefaring fantasy. In respect to the challenge of doing something surprising or deceptive harmonically the tag at the end of the I, V, vi, IV chorus is a Bb to F to G. A little modal mixture cadence action to clear the palate before getting back to the verses.
Final thoughts: I like this song better than most I've written for the club. I keep listening to it and not hating it...it's a miracle!
lyrics
Going far away
Never seen a world so tattered
Long live el Rey
Flying for a day
See the matchbox cars they scatter
Paying to play
Looks like they’re just standing still
Spinning wheels and paying bills
From my seat I’m flying high
Watching broken worlds go by
High above the clouds and
Ocean tides that occupy my mind
No we never see the signs
It’s too late now say goodnight
Far above the earth with
Hand in hand we say our last goodbye
Soon the sun will rise
Sorry, couldn’t stay
Restless nights and endless patter
Ain’t quite my way
Lonely, couldn’t say
Always liked the quiet shatter
Fading to grey
Held me there against my will
Seeking out a bigger thrill
From my seat I’m flying high
Watching broken worlds go by
High above the clouds and
Ocean tides that occupy my mind
No we never see the signs
It’s too late now say goodnight
Far above the earth with
Hand in hand we say our last goodbye
Soon the sun will rise
Late night starry skies
All alone I steer what matters
Galaxy eyes
Eyes front, on the prize
In the black go we mad hatters
Pillars of light
Maybe we’ll be back again
Don’t wait up we don’t know when
From my seat I’m flying high
Watching broken worlds go by
High above the clouds and
Ocean tides that occupy my mind
No we never see the signs
It’s too late now say goodnight
Far above the earth with
Hand in hand we say our last goodbye
Soon the sun will rise
