I painted the porch and it looks real nice
I got a cooler that's filled up with beer and ice
I got some buddies gonna drop by tonight

This house was my daddy's and his daddy before
Granddaddy built it back before teh war
he built this porch out of knobby pine
So he could sit out here and watch teh cars go by

He bought a guitar from Montgomery Wards
Some Black diamond strings and a book of chords
Listen to the Opry every Saturday Night
Try to play along and watch the cars go by|

He learned how to play and taught my daddy too
it didn't take long to get pretty good
The front yard would fill with people at night
just to listen to the music and watch the cars go by

Granddaddy passed away at age 95
He gathered us together just before he dies
He said scatter my ashes on the front hillside
so I can listen to the music and watch the cars go by
