I got excited about this assignment, thinking about the fun I could have imitating some of my favorite 90's artists, such as … well, I'll just keep that to myself, since we might end up revisiting this challenge down the road. But then I realized the obvious solution - there are a couple of 90's bands, and one in particular, that I've drawn inspiration from repeatedly for my Solid Citizen and Mediocre Bad Guy material, and it seemed prudent to go back to the well in the hopes of producing a song I might be able to use for one of those bands. Sue me if I took the liberty of adding a few extra vocals - I figured that there was a chance that this might end up being an MBG song, so I thought I'd put it in the context of MBG's harmony style.
lyrics
oh, these lazy days when
nothing seems to fit
oh, this tiny corner seems so ordinary
what could turn your head around
Tennessee has spoken
got no claims for me
Nashville raindrops
count the rosary
if you're feeling lost and lonesome
I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting for
you … stuck inside these February blues
there's a name for what you're missing
are you listening
do you hear the change?
freezing in this west-side Winston rain
oh, the footprints from the
front porch to the street
trace the same old steps through ice crunch
to the mailbox empty as these cold backstreets
snow in Asheville's like a ten-foot chain link fence
line of traffic's just a still-life going nowhere
if you're feeling lost and lonesome
I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting for
you … stuck inside these February blues
there's a name for what you're missing
are you listening
do you hear the change?
freezing in this west-side Winston rain
