Had to rush this one before I leave town for the weekend. Can't believe I'm actually first in - it's been awhile!
Still on my Travis/Britpop kick. Given the "revenge" theme this week, my only real idea was to pair a really vicious lashing-out sensibility with a yearning, keening, slow-burn vocal. Nothing world-changing here, and it was a one-take vocal, but I'm kinda OK with this one.
lyrics
forty fathoms
under water
chasing phantoms
through the deep
valve plugs chamber
won’t release me
wake up, screaming
in my sleep
and if you wonder who I’m talking to
well, it’s probably you
everyone
to the wall
follow best
protocol
keep your bags
in your sight
tonight
when it’s all
going down
all your cries
won’t make a sound
come the day
when I destroy you all
can’t remember
first night’s shadow
mopping bloodstains
from the wall
shoulders clenching
under pressure
blocking blows
stooped to crawl
and if you wonder who I’m talking to
well, it’s probably you
everyone
to the wall
follow best
protocol
keep your bags
in your sight
tonight
when it’s all
going down
all your cries
won’t make a sound
come the day
when I destroy you all
