I contributed this song a couple of years ago at the 11th hour after a particularly, um, festive Sunday gig day. The song was really rushed, and honestly, you can tell that, on the demo, I was barely this side of consciousness while recording it. I believe I said in my notes that I was completely embarrassed by it.
But I kept coming back to it, and I realized that it was definitely worth a rewrite. This is not the full rewrite I had in mind, but it does keep the ball rolling. In the spirit of the classic R&B tracks that the song emulates, I wanted to keep the lyrics as direct and as emotionally open as I could make them without descending into treacle. They ain't there yet, but I think I'll keep working on them.
Apologies for not only a Sunday post-gig-weekend voice, but also a voice wracked by the ruin of a nasty cold. I really couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag, right now.
