I like this one. I'd like to come back and find a little more creative inspiration with the lyrics, but the story, the feel, the dynamics, and the vibe are solid, I think.
I started this one with the idea of the emotions of betrayal, disgust, and anger that were hard to avoid in the news this week. This song is certainly not topical, but the emotions and sentiment began there, without a doubt.
The demo is very raw, but production-wise, I wanted to try something that really pushed the depth-of-field. The guitar track is nothing but Les Paul, straight into Princeton, with plenty of reverb. Bass, drums, and vocals are almost entirely dry (just a tiny bit of room verb on the vocal).
lyrics
Where did you go?
did you already know
that you’d one day be leaving me?
was there a sting?
did you feel anything
when you called out the cavalry?
Was there a doubt?
did I give you an out?
Some part of you must believe
Used to be someone I could count on
used to be someone who cared
used to be the peak of the mountain
now you’re breathing thinner air
where’d you go?
The depths of my lungs
the song that I’ve sung
nothing but dust to you
the volume of words
the violence unheard
all still in your field of view
You stare at your feet
so dim and discreet
You're not who I thought I knew
Used to be someone I could count on
used to be someone who cared
used to be the peak of the mountain
now you’re breathing thinner air
where’d you go?
