Funny thing about this song is that, this week, I vowed to finally do what I've been trying to do for a long time now, which is to commit to writing a first draft of lyrics BEFORE I started working on music. So I wrote a pretty funny Paul Simon-esque lyric that I really liked. And then I set it to music and decided it really didn't fit anymore, but I liked the main hook, so I ended up rewriting nearly ALL the lyrics, after I'd written the music. In truth, the original lyrics were much better, but I like the way these lyrics fit the mood of the song a little better, and I enjoyed making myself commit to a real love song again, something I rarely do.
lyrics
When come the storms of midnight cries
The floods of alibis
The wind against the panes
The song that brings me back to ground
My clouded angel's sound
her sleeping breath's refrain
You can have your games of war and chance
I'm going home where I know all the outcomes in advance
You come on easy, when I'm frayed and worn
You're like sleeping in on a rainy morn
You calm my troubles and soothe my fears, forlorn
You're like sleeping in on a rainy morn
I used to know a man in need
He shouted at the sea
To voice his foolish rage
I know a lady, bears his trials
She shakes her head and smiles
The tempest dissipates
You can have your games of war and chance
I'm going home where I know all the outcomes in advance
You come on easy, when I'm frayed and worn
You're like sleeping in on a rainy morn
You calm my troubles and soothe my fears, forlorn
You're like sleeping in on a rainy morn
