This was for Jon's challenge about a Gospel song... "I often describe my songwriting genre as Gospel music, using the term “Gospel” in the broadest sense possible...my 'Gospel' may sound more like Iron & Wine than Al Green, more Siouxsie Sioux than Sandi Patti. Plainly speaking, my intent is to make Christian art that doesn’t suck. So my challenge is this: write a 'sacred' song in *your style* that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator. I realize not everyone holds the same faith and some may have no faith...all well and good...Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha’i, Agnostic, Atheist, Satanist, or whatever…write something *heartfelt* and *lyrically authentic* (happy, angry, doubting, irreverent, etc...honest) in *your style*." - For me, I'm not a "religious" person... but I think if everyone just opened up their minds and accepted the world as the diverse and interesting place it is, we'd all be a lot better off. I still have hope! Lyrics are prob too cliche and with a travel week I didn't have much time... but the gist of how I feel is there.
