Continuing with my Gabriel-esque fascination this week, combined with the heavy influence of one particular band I've been listening to a lot lately, as it's going to be the next VSS project. The furious indignation and helplessness of the week's events pointed the way to the four portraits in the verses.
lyrics
before the rains came down
her father held her
in her wedding gown
he knew
the moments come too few
he knew
the soldier steals a glance
the unwed bride considers
circumstance
he knew
she'd lost her field of view
he knew
and when the flood begins
no mercy overcomes the sins
lay your black heart down
don't go where you cannot feel the light
the junkie's neighbor rants
you've got to change, for fortune
or for chance
she knew
he'd reached his Waterloo
she knew
the sergeant stood his ground
without a thought beyond
the battleground
she knew
the war he'd signed on to
she knew
and when the flood begins
no mercy overcomes the sins
lay your black heart down
don't go where you cannot feel the light
