This is all pretty much a stream of consciousness, lyrically. I try, even then, to stick to some type of rhyme scheme. This is basically AABBB with a little alliteration along the way. The song is written in the common theme of myself of trying to balance being a good provider and good father while pursuing being creative, musically; however little time I end up devoting. It keeps me feeling alive.
Musically, I started with the first thing that came to mind on guitar, then changed to the first thing that came to mind on piano and stuck with the latter. It was a first-take, warts and all including "Baby Shark" playing in the background at the end. I bet the second take would be better.
lyrics
Have to what I have to do
Whatever that means for me and you
Go along and ride the rides
White flag flapping from inside
Keeps me feeling alive
Escapades in rear view
Temporary relief, depths of blue
Two worlds set to collide
No where to run, no where to hide
Keeps me feeling alive
Stranger to the beaten path
Scratches, scars, torn, raggedy clad
Sweat burns the eyes
Squinting to constantly contrive
Keeps me feeling alive
Can’t give up even when I should
So many reasons to slam the hood
Finger jammed and expletive cried
Sleep when the embers have died
Keeps me feeling alive
