My late Dad's birthday was Saturday. I spent a lot of time reflecting on him this weekend. That night he was in a dream. He had showed up to a gig and we were on set break. He was dressed with a black Stetson hat and holding a Budweiser. Though we didn't speak verbally, I seemed to get a glimpse of his wisdom from his eyes, then I woke up. I tried to get this song written about the dream experience, but this is what came out.

Make Memories
Em-D C
Em-D G
Verse 1:
D. C————G
Pride in the eyes only parents can see
Em———-G. C
baggage kept on the side of the road
D. C———-G
Shirt from your back but don't bother the ear
Em———-G. C———-G
Life’s too short for unfounded shows
D. C—————G
You left that behind when you came home
Em—-G. C
Or so I hypothesized
D. C—G
They say that it teaches priorities
Em—————-G. C—G
In what you will stand behind
Chorus:
C—————G. C————-G
The more that I learn the less that I know
C———————-G. D
I guess that’s the lesson, how stories go
C——————G. C——————G
Things that we want will stay when we leave
Em—————D C
Best to just make memories
Em—————D. G
Best to just make memories
Verse 2:
D. C————G
Every day up well before the sun
Em———-G. C
Even on Sundays after Saturdays’ spree
D. C————G
Thankful for bread, roof overhead
Em———-G. C—G
And most of all family
D. C————G
Buildings are raised while others are fell
Em———-G. C
Wishes fall deaf but others are found
D. C————G
Labor of love when love takes the labor
Em———-G. C————G
cycles like hands endless around
Chorus:
C—————G. C————-G
The more that I learn the less that I know
C———————-G. D
I guess that’s the lesson, how stories go
C——————G. C——————G
Things that we want will stay when we leave
Em—————D. C
Best to just make memories
Em—————D. G
Best to just make memories
