One side effect of this round's format that I didn't anticipate is that it enabled a scenario like today's: I was under a crunch again and wasn't sure about which assignment to tackle, so I just let my mind wander, at first, without an assignment in mind. I stumbled on a chorus I thought had potential, worked it up a bit, and then tried to envision which assignment it might work best for.
I really didn't want to burn the Susan Snow assignment on a "crunch week," because I really wanted to come up with something special for her, if I could. But I just felt as if my chorus-in-the-making could lend itself to the kind of Americana-torch-song kind of thing that I always envision for Susan, so I just followed that path.
lyrics
don't say your love
is a living thing in motion
push comes to shove
and I won't stand around to see
everybody can see
that this is killing me
I'm not ready to forgive you yet
never made such a wasted bet
all I see is the silhouette
of the friend you used to be
every time you put your knife in me
there's a little less sympathy
I'm not ready to forgive you yet
I don't know if I can be the one you need
this I believe
before the fury fades to black
there's no reprieve
when the blackness pulls me back
if I could ever be free
from this weakness in me
Where goes the good
To balance out the sting?
To raise, as you should,
The offerings I bring
It took so long to come round
This bitter wisdom I've found
I'm not ready to forgive you yet
never made such a wasted bet
all I see is the silhouette
of the friend you used to be
every time you put your knife in me
there's a little less sympathy
I'm not ready to forgive you yet
I don't know if I can be the one you need
