Based on a Shoshone myth about how coyote brought fire to humans.
One of these weeks I'll add more instruments, but for now I'm happy to just get a song recorded at all.
lyrics
Fire Bringer
In the time before humans had fire One winter brought a freeze
Coyote heard the mothers wailing At their children’s agony
Coyote knew where the fire giants Closely guarded flame
So he crept up to their mountain lair To bring some to the plains
He stole an ember in his jaws And flew away in haste
And the giants all let out a roarAs they quickly joined the chase
Coyote be brave To bring us fire at last
To escape from the giants Coyote you’d best be fast
Can you do it by yourself Or meet a fiery end
Coyote run until you’re done And then count on your friends
Cougar saw coyote’s plight And raced into the fray
She grabbed the ember from coyote And carried it away
The fire giants gave pursuit But were fading as they went
Then little squirrel up in a tree Became the next agent
Coyote be brave To bring to us this gift
To escape from the giants coyote you’d best be swift
Can you do it by yourself Or meet a fiery end
Coyote run until you’re done And then count on your friends
And all the friends of coyote Helped fire be delivered
And the fire giants disappeared Into a raging blizzard
With the power of the flame Humans now had might
And they vowed to honor all beasts Who helped them in their plight
