So... the structure of this song...
Not unlike a lot of my songs... verse/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/2nd chorus (amended)/short reprise of previous verse.
Could have used a bridge (& a harmonica solo), but that wouldn't even save this song.
Verses marry rhymes of lines 1&2, and 3&4.
Choruses rhyme within lines 1 & 3, as well as rhyming the ends of lines 2 & 4.
... for whatever that's worth.
Also, while I was setting out to do sort of an Irish thing, I very obviously ripped off John Prine's "Paradise."
lyrics
v1:
Her face paints a picture that everyone knows
One side a ghost, the other a rose
A smile as wide as the deep blue sea
Why does she keep on hiding from me?
v2:
Her eyes burn like fire, her hair flows like rain
A body that even God wouldn't tame
Legs as long as a mid-summer's day
Why does she keep on running away?
ch:
Eureka, I found her, no love can surround her
She dreams a new dream before vanishing in air
Eureka don't want me, but she sure likes to haunt me
I reach out to touch her, but no one is there
v3:
She thinks that her love might go unreturned
That's a hard lesson that we never learn
A drop at the bottom of the deepest well
The sunlight through the window of the darkest cell
ch:
Eureka, I found her, no love can surround her
She dreams a new dream before vanishing in air
Eureka don't want me, but she sure likes to haunt me
I reach out to touch her, but no one is there
ch2:
Eureka, Hail Mary, this game is so very...
full of deceit, deception, abuse
Eureka, my darlin', you sure are a hard one...
to figure out, to figure the truth
v4:
Her face paints a picture that everyone knows
One side a ghost, the other a rose
