I was inspired by the final line of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein."

"He was soon borne away by the waves, and lost in darkness and distance."

I started with the line, "Lost in darkness and distance, we float on. We float on..."

In the beginning I am comparing the story to a relationship, and how you can be stuck in a bad relationship.

But in the end the line takes on more political overtones. the roles are reversed, and we have created the monster.
