about

Long way to go on the lyric for this one, but I think I dig the general vibe and melodies. I don't know how I got myself into a lyric rut of "encouragement and advice" scenarios, since I generally detest that kind of thing. But it is what it is. This is sort of meant to deal with the impossibility of finding the words to comfort those in grief. Melodically, it's equally indebted to "Melissa," "Joining a Fan Club," and the Jayhawks. But that could probably describe many of my songs ...

lyrics

I heard the rumors in the air
Heard you shouting at the sky
There'll come no words to make it fair
No lightning lullaby

Seems you think you're made of steel
But you break like empty promise
A hundred dollar deal

Lay down yr sorrows
Rest yr eyes
Into the arms of a friend
I see you dreaming
Sundown dreams
As soon as the day begins
Stop kicking at the wind

The days go by without a sign
That every second's loaded
The winds that whistle through the pines
Who reads the tongues encoded?

And I am just a fool to think I know
The words you need to hear
The tonic for your fear

Lay down yr sorrows
Rest yr eyes
Into the arms of a friend
I see you dreaming
Sundown dreams
As soon as the day begins
Stop kicking at the wind
