I've been wanting to write a "heart break" break up song for a while now, but I just got engaged and needless to say, I'm not being truthful to myself if I write a break up song at this point in my life. So I created a character that has that in his life. It's not really a different genre though, as it's acoustic guitar and voice, and I didn't have time to do much different. I still like it though because it's different in tone than what I usually do. I've been mostly writing happy songs lately, so it's a nice change for me.
lyrics
Was it something that I said
or was it just that you changed your mind
was it something that I did
or did you just find
Something better and decide to leave
the plans we made were fantasy
or were the words we said always a lie
does it hurt to say goodbye?
It's one for the heart
and one for the head
when you leave, make sure the love is dead
don't leave me wondering what I could have said
or if there is a chance in times ahead
it's one for the heart
and one for the head
I didn't mean to love you
but somehow you took my heart
I tried not to think about you
but my mind was hooked from the start
I gave you both my mind and soul
the words you said made me whole
it's something that I can't give back
you took them both and didn't even ask
it's one for the heart
one for the head
when you leave, make sure the love is dead
don't leave me wondering what I could have said
or if there is a chance in times ahead
it's one for the heart
and one for the head
