Musically I was really inspired by this particular Alexi Murdoch tune "Orange Sky" and attempted to write a super simple (even for me) song - and it's harder than it looks for sure.
lyrics
Joined the race as I was told, trained to win
Fought the battle, tooth and soul, round it went
Never question why
Scared to be that kind of guy
Play to win, shoot to kill
Shoot to kill
Know that race will play a part, always be
Cling to those who look the same, fits comfortably
Couldn’t pay no mind
Prefer to be with my own kind
Play to win, shoot to kill
Shoot to kill
It’s over when we say it
The rules are by decree
Steamroll all those sinner types
If they don’t look like me
Shoot to Kill
shoot to kill
Finish first, finish last, who gives a damn
Race to my oblivion, that the plan?
Lonely every single day
Got to be a better way
Try to care, search the light
Search the light
End refrain:
Stop this race, see my face
I choose love
Take a stand, Hold my hand
I choose love
