Fuck. Great. I'm right after Mitchell. I'm liable to remove this shit and let somebody else take this position in the listing.
Leonard Cohen. I'm not a hundredth of the songwriter he was, but I love the guy and I did my best. Here's a New York song in the spirit of "Chelsea Hotel," I guess. I was gonna dress it up some, but I kinda liked the mono dummy tracks carrying the thing, so here it is.
Definitely some placeholder lyrics and obscure references, but I like it anyway. "Solomon's Empire" is supposed to be the club where she hooks at, but it's not made clear in the lyric because I did a shit job communicating that.
lyrics
Stoic in the loss
Grafiti walls and train exhaust
Breathe out
Couldn’t give a toss
Spider blue, no matter the cost
Be loud
Jackson Heights and Queens
Born and raised in New Orleans
Moved out
Back in ’63
Lost her daddy and she blew town
Northbound
Bright lights, big city
Errant girl, living on the tiles
Found a loving man
Promised her the moon
And like the tides he was gone too soon
Gone too soon
Summer, 85
20 years and still lost
Like a child
Taken for a ride
City never sleeps
All hell runs wild
Solomon’s Empire
Makes her home in the alleyway
Behind
The seedy part of town
Where perverts go yearning to
Unwind
Bright lights, big city
Errant girl, living on the tiles
Found her a loving man
Promised her the moon
And like the tides, he was gone too soon
‘Bout that loving man
Loved his drink and then
Rode the lightning out
Shot a man inside
She brought the gun
And now he baits
Hellhounds
Bright lights, big city
Errant girl, living on the tiles
Now beneath Roosevelt Avenue
Mother rides, she’ll be gone too soon
Gone too soon
