Man, I had high hopes this week. I'd been listening to Travis early this week and thinking that I might like to work on a batch of Britpop/Beatlesque pop kind of stuff, which used to be my bread and butter, though I haven't really worked much in that vein in a while.
I nailed down a tune, structure, and vibe that I liked very much early on in the week, but the abbreviated lines didn't allow a lot of room for storytelling, and I had a hard time bringing a concept into focus. And then, of course, I ran out of time in a four-gig week. I'm not at ALL happy with these lyrics (and some certainly barely rise above the scratch-lyric level), but I do like the fundamentals of the song, and I may return to this for a rewrite, if I get a project off the ground in this vein.
lyrics
Annie, you’ve been waiting for a sign
Some emotion
But I don’t see a hint of the divine
In your motions
Annie, I think you might just agree
You’ve waited a long time
All of these nights spent in retreat
And days of slow motion leave you
And if you could have prayed
As long as the moon shines
It’s the words that you say
Always stay in the sightlines, now you’re
Always chasing dragonflies
Wondering where your lost love lies
Writing your concertos for no one
After your last second guess
All alone in party dress
I still find you
Staring at the sun
Annie, ever since you were a girl
You sought the shadows
You closed your eyes, point to the world
Out your window
Annie, have you heard the news today?
In the airwaves
Your opportunity won’t stay
All the timing that you save
And if you could have prayed
As long as the moon shines
It’s the words that you say
Always stay in the sightlines, now you’re
Always chasing dragonflies
Wondering where your lost love lies
Writing your concertos for no one
After your last second guess
All alone in party dress
I still find you
Staring at the sun
