Joshua West - 17 Days

17 days now
I've been under lock and key
Stripped away my rank
They took it all from me
All because I put down my gun
No longer a surrogate blade
No longer a political pawn
I just pray these memories fade
17 days
Down in a hole
17 days
To save my soul
17 days
When I first signed on
I thought it was a chance
To finally see the world
A marching war dance
But when it came time
To take another life
I lay down my gun
And sheathed my knife
17 days
Down in a hole
17 days
To save my soul
17 days
The boys all caledl me yellow
And threw me in the brig
And I know I gave a vow
But I now have to renege
When I looked into the eyes
The man they called my foe
I saw he was just a man
And I held my killing blow
17 days
Down in a hole
17 days
To save my soul
17 days
That's what they don't tell you
Before they ship you off to fight
The other side has men
Who think that they are right
And really the only difference
Between you and them
Is where you come from
Or the color of your skin
17 days
Down in a hole
17 days
To save my soul
17 days
17 days now
I've been under lock and key
Stripped away my rank
They took it all from me
I just pray these memories fade
I just pray these memories fade
I just pray these memories fade

I come from down South and smell of the Tobacco leaves
I’ll sing you songs of murderous lust, and howl if you please
I thought that this would be home forever, and my life was in a sling
But then I met this girl and that changed everything
She was just pixels when we met just an image on a screen
I was a man long forgotten when she first spoke to me
And every night I hold her if only in my dreams
So I’m goin up North where my true love waits for me
I speak with a twang and I curse like a mad Millionaire
And I sing as the Devil would sing, and the people they stop and stare
I can play the Guitar if the money is right you see
But nothing is keeping me here, so I must spread my wings
I may not know where I’m going or what may come to be
I’ve been known to make bad decisions many times in life you see
But there’s a voice deep in my heart telling me to pick up and leave
I’m goin up North where my true love waits for me
So I’m leaving the only world I know and I’ll fly to the unknown
Yeah I guess I’ll learn to take chances and just play it as I go
And I ain’t got a job, I ain’t got much money to spend
But this girl has stolen my heart, and I must take it back my friend
I swear that I’ll miss my friends and my family
And my fears run dark and deep as a Captain lost at Sea
But there’s nothing else in this world more beautiful than she
I’m goin up North where my true love waits for me

AG Y'all - Different
03:12
|

It ain’t always easy being different
Especially if you don’t know, no damn difference
They can’t say your name skins not the same
There but a million miles away
Not always easy being different
Then you finally do,
find a big world that’s larger than you
Learn who you are, better by far
Start to see light shining through
It ain’t always easy being different
Especially when they attack where you’re livin
Minds are too small see nothing at all
Seem to forget what it’s all built on
Not always easy being different
Then you start to break through
A small act of kindness welcoming you
Cracks in the hate won’t hesitate
Feel the sunshine coming through

Annie, you’ve been waiting for a sign
Some emotion
But I don’t see a hint of the divine
In your motions
Annie, I think you might just agree
You’ve waited a long time
All of these nights spent in retreat
And days of slow motion leave you
And if you could have prayed
As long as the moon shines
It’s the words that you say
Always stay in the sightlines, now you’re
Always chasing dragonflies
Wondering where your lost love lies
Writing your concertos for no one
After your last second guess
All alone in party dress
I still find you
Staring at the sun
Annie, ever since you were a girl
You sought the shadows
You closed your eyes, point to the world
Out your window
Annie, have you heard the news today?
In the airwaves
Your opportunity won’t stay
All the timing that you save
And if you could have prayed
As long as the moon shines
It’s the words that you say
Always stay in the sightlines, now you’re
Always chasing dragonflies
Wondering where your lost love lies
Writing your concertos for no one
After your last second guess
All alone in party dress
I still find you
Staring at the sun

SON OF A PIZZA MAN
TOM TOM THE FISHERMAN
TOM TOM WITH THE SWOLLEN HANDS
THE KIDS CALLED HIM FISHY THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND TOM TOM WAS A REAL FISHERMAN
THEY CALLED HER BANANA CURLS
THEY CALLED HER BANANA CURLS
ALL THE BOYS AND GIRLS CALLED HER BANANA CURLS
LIKE BETTY DAVIS AS BABY JANE
SHE WORE HER HAIR IN
BANANA CURLS
BECAUSE THE KIDS DID NOT KNOW HER NAME
BING WAS THE LAUNDRY MAN
BING WAS THE LAUNDRY MAN
HE WOULD TAKE US ON HIS LAUNDRY ROUTE IN HIS CHINESE LAUNDRY VAN
AND THE KIDS WOULD RIDE ALONG WITH HIM ACROSS THIS BROOKLYN LAND
OH BING WAS THE GREATEST MAN
WHERE DID THEY GO WHERE DID THEY GO
IT SUCH A LONG TIME AGO
WHERE DID THEY GO WHERE DID THEY GO
DID THEY TURN TO DUST OR TURN TO SNOW
IM THE SON OF A PIZZA MAN
IM A SON OF A PIZZA MAN
AND I SIT INSIDE MY MIDDLE ROOM
AND LOOK DOWN AT THE PIZZA STAND
IM A SON OF A PIZZA MAN

He grew up quick
With a hickory stick
Every time he had some fun
Red bottoms fade
Part of the game
Like the barrel of the gun
Waiting on a penance
Cigarettes, cheap wine
Theft, petty crime
Innocent lashing out
Foil and pills
Fists could kill
Pounded a new route
Waiting on a penance
Juvi tattoos
Too young for blues
Or to ever know defeat
Suit and tie
Blinking eyes
On his day of release
Waiting on a penance
Smile and handshake
Grass that veiled the snake
Every step of the way (Slithering display)
Gardens of love
Gardens of war
Reaping tears he craved
Void to fill
Temporarily killed
With every waking victim
The Black inside
Could never die
Sudden aneurysm
Waiting on a penance

She said I’m just a ghost digging holes for a grave I’ll never use
Won’t put the shovel down, tell me what’s your excuse
The hallway lined with photographs & posters leaves a clear path for the door
The animal inside her leads her crawling ‘cross the floor
Got a bag full of makeup & pills doesn’t know what for
Retreat seems the better choice, but forward is the only way she knows
She’s got the maps & legends, she follows where the wind blows
I start the judgements early, but I suppose
We all fall hard
Sometimes we stay down
She’s got the courage to wait
Wait for the rebound
In 2 days she lived for 7 weeks or maybe even more
“I don’t think that Jesus wants to help me fight this war“
Can’t seem to figure her out, but I know for sure
We all fall hard
Sometimes we stay down
She’s got the courage to wait
Wait for the rebound
