I’m challenged and mildly psychotic. I had this song pop into my mind. When it did, it was just like you are about to hear it. Finished, lyrics, melody…everything. It just shows up. That’s the psychotic part I think. So it’s good I guess that I’ve devised ways to get these ideas out of my brain and onto a recording very close to what popped into my brain. The challenged part is that I have a message but have difficulties in delivering the message. This song is about a guy with the worst luck and it plays on the recording you get when you dial a wrong telephone number. I would have liked the message to be that you can’t rely on luck alone…you have to work at it. But the way this song came out, it’s truly up to the listener to get that. But it’s not my fault! This is how it showed up! This is for Susan’s challenge…SPACE. I even say ‘space’ so I hope I met the challenge.
lyrics
Try Your Wish Again
I ain’t had a job in months
And the bills ain’t getting’ paid
My lottery numbers keep missin’
Can’t seem to catch a break
So I went outside one evenin’
To give it another try
And I wished upon the brightest star
In that Carolina night sky
As I stood there waiting
And staring into space
Well nothin’ seemed to happen
Then I thought I heard a voice say
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Did you make your wish just right
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Are you sure you’re in the right night
You’ve reached the wrong constellation
You wish did not go through
Please check the star that you wished on
And try your wish again
Well it only takes one hand
To count my lucky stars
They must be in another galaxy
Or hiding behind Mars
And my rabbit’s foot ain’t kickin’
And my horseshoe it won’t ring
So I guess I’ll go out every night
And find the first star that I see
When I wish upon a star
You know it says right back to me
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Did you make your wish just right
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Are you sure you’re in the right night
You’ve reached the wrong constellation
You wish did not go through
Please check the star that you wished on
And try your wish again
Sometimes when things ain’t workin’ out
You blame it all on luck
You wish on every star in the sky
And it’s never gonna be enough
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Did you make your wish just right
You’ve got the wrong constellation
Are you sure you’re in the right night
You’ve reached the wrong constellation
You wish did not go through
Please check the star that you wished on
And try your wish again
