Started trying to work up something on the guitar, since that seemed in line with the Johnny Cash prompt, but nothing was really coming from it. Then a little piano melody popped in my head and I ran with it. Wrote some lyrics that sounded like something Johnny would write. Sang in a register way outside my comfort zone, but I kinda dig it. lyrics
Everybody’s got a place to go
But I’m left in the afterglow
Ooh, waiting and wailing
Promises they have been made
Maybe for another day
Ooh, I’m waiting and wailing
They said the there’d be a place for me
A sense of who I wanted to be
Something I’ve longed for a while
But I arrive and it is clear
There’s a whole bunch of nothing here
Seems like this happens all the time
I’m a man of action plans
And this is why I can’t understand
All of this waiting and wailing
You told me I could trust in you
So give me something that I can do
I don’t like waiting and wailing
Maybe it’s just temporary and
Someday it’ll come to me
But I don’t wanna be stuck here in this stew
Show me who you want me to be
Even though there are no guarantees
I’ll still be looking out for you
I guess it’s better than nothing at all
You gotta walk after you learn to crawl
Ooh, waiting and wailing
