My grandfather and both my uncles were/are Navy men. Uncle Tommy and Uncle Mike both worked on submarines and have shared enough stories for me to know a few of their common terms and what life was kind of like in a "pinched off sewer pipe," as they often called it. The "dive" call at the beginning is actually taken from a video my uncle Tommy sent me of him as Chief of the Watch actually doing a dive call. Song itself is pretty cool for what it is, I think. Came out better than I expected, and I didn't have to rehash any old reggae songs from my daily dope smoking days.
Don't hate on my vocals too hard, I'm coming down with something that definitely AIN'T the 'Rona.
Also, the photo of the sub in dry dock is the one my uncle Mike was on.
lyrics
Jimmy was a sailor
He had sea foam in his eyes
Living here ain’t easy
In a pinched off sewer pipe
Got the call to watch out
Said the reds have lit their fire
Order came, make ready
Now it’s time to dive
Tensions are high
And the amine suffocates
Far gone though we might
On to depth, we wait
Coffin racks in five
For the needless complicate
Oh, oh, we wait
We wait
Seconds creep by hours
And the sweating lights so bright
Son and daughter soldiers
In the quietesse we hide
Radio is silent
No orders since the last
Staying vigil, knives out
No signals on the mast
Tensions are high
And the amine suffocates
Far gone though we might
On to depth, we wait
Coffin racks in five
For the needless complicate
Oh, oh, we wait
We wait
