I think this might be my favorite MM3AM track in a while. Started out fairly folksy, took an Elliott Smith turn, and then acquired a bit of an electro-pop sheen. I'm OK with that.
lyrics
Did it matter where we were?
Would you have felt the very same?
singing a long lost melody
I can’t recall
did I ever know the name
at the bottom of the stairs
I watched you turn your head and smile
lost in a memory, a shade I’ll never share
a debt I’ll never reconcile
There’s a light at the end of the pier
For the ships out at sea
What were you thinking when
you weren’t thinking of me?
it’s the black box in your heart
it’s the apple on the tree
the key to the code I wish I’d
never thought to find
the whispers lost to memory
shall we walk out on the sand
shall we dance the night away
knowing that somewhere
there’s a line that can’t be crossed
while we keep the dark at bay
There’s a light at the end of the pier
For the ships out at sea
What were you thinking when
you weren’t thinking of me?
