The water keeps on rising
The rain continues to fall
The sky has opened the gates of hell
Now I'm climbing up the walls
Mama and Daddy are screaming heavens why
Cause with the rain comes the flood
And I'm terrified
It seems that all is lost
Our homes have sunk and drowned
So tell me how pain can be so loud
When it doesn't make a sound
The sun now shines on a million bags of sand
And with the rain comes the flood
On a cursed lowland

I was standing at a funeral
when the rain started coming down
"just another rainy day," I told myself
and headed back to town
but the rain, it didn't stop
and the riverbanks couldn't withstand
the water spread out to the streets
taking over the land
So I packed up my family
and headed to higher ground
when I came back two days later
I was floored by what I found
there was nothing recognizable
in the place that we called home
just a ruined mess
that was everything we owned
Sometimes the worst in life
brings out our best
sometimes we show our strength
when it's put to the test
sometimes the tears get lost
in the water all around
sometimes in the depth of loss
is where our soul is found
So i'm putting it back together
with this hammer in my hand
tearing down walls and building them up
as we make another stand
but the hardest part of rebuilding
is the look in my children's eyes
losing everything they've known
in the night I hear their cries
Sometimes the worst in life
brings out our best
sometimes we show our strength
when it's put to the test
sometimes the tears get lost
in the water all around
sometimes in the depth of loss
is where our soul is found

Rising tide river free
I don't blame you so don't hate me
Find it in our hearts to still believe
Hangin On the short rope
We won't lose hope
Work so hard to build a life
In a flash in a flood all washed away
Hard not to be angry hard to be at all
Try to rembember what's important today
When it's said and done
We're the lucky ones
Have a chance to live for better days
Don't ask for much this one hurts
In a flash in a flood lost everything
Well a lifetime of stuff doesn't mean that much
Try to remember what's important today
We can build it back
Better than that
Hold tight as a community

How many times have we watched the waters rising
How many ways have we said, it's gonna break
And in the backs of our minds we think, what difference does it make
You can't outrun the river
There ain't no way you'll ever believe her again
You can't outrun the river
That's the price you'll pay to be delivered, my friend
When the world spins so fast, it's paralyzing
And the days weave & drag in our minds
We all know it won't last until the end of time
You can't outrun the river
There ain't no way you'll ever believe her again
You can't outrun the river
That's the price you'll pay to be delivered, my friend
You can't outrun the river
You can't outrun the river
You can't outrun the river

When the rain starting falling
We didn’t know
That everything could change
In a storm without a name
The water got in the walls
And flowed down through the halls
It soaked through every fiber of our home
Teddy bears and tennis rackets
The sofa and our favorite chairs
Mattresses and baby blankets
They’re all rotting in the open air
The fridge we bought last year
The books we held so dear
Pillows and fancy shoes
All the things we used to use are gone
Piled up on the curb
Piled up on the curb
Intimate mementos exposed for all to see
The things we used to treasure
Have been turned into debris
Used to think the world was ours
Used to welcome summer showers
Now it’s all submerged and splattered
And all the things that seemed to matter
Washed away
When the rain starting falling
We didn’t know
That our lives would end up so disturbed
Piled up on the curb

Momma said there'd be days like this
But I never quite believed it til the flood tore the piss out my town
we already got it bad, yes I've seen a few friends die,
but I ain't ever seen a mother fucker drown
Its all sink no swim when your hopes look grim
Oh Shit I think the levee broke again
We're all hopeless, helpless, lost...I shouldn't use another synonym
Get Money get paid get rich?
but my house is now down at the bottom of the river bitch!!
Hard to believe in the American Dream
When everything I owned just floated down stream
here was the church, there went the steeple
Open the doors and out float the people
It's getting harder to believe in love
When All I got is prayers to my lord above
All washed away All washed
Our Culture's getting washed away
Back to the message back to reality
For CNN and Fox its just a media frenzy
Feeding on disaster and feeding the poor
For them its just a mother fucking ratings war
Need to fend for ourselves save whatever we can
Need to figure out our own disaster plan
Try to help the homeless, sick and injured
While our leader's out golfing in Martha's Vineyard
Oh God how's this come to be
My city looks like the Adriatic Sea
Gonna take us years to get ourselves clean
Lafayette, New Orleans Soon to be another crime scene
Now we're just a ticking time bomb
another Uncle Tom, Its getting hard as hell to stay calm
When your country's done turned their head
Welcome to the Voodoo State full of walking dead!
All washed away All washed
Our Culture's getting washed away

thought I was doing the right thing
thought I could keep you from harm
thought I could keep you forever
I should’ve hear the alarms
I don’t suppose you’d remember
those memories they haunt me tonight
we sat on a bench outside Roux House
bathed in the gold marquee's light
you told me you’d never been partial
to my kind of trifling schemes
but I dreamed that some day you would love me
and tonight I’m still dreaming that dream
I ain’t Never felt so lost, so deep
when I turned that rusty key
and I knew that that angry old river
gone and washed it all out to sea
you have honored your side of the bargain
as faithful as you ought to be
now there’s nothing left standing between us
but this boxful of broken debris
I bought you a house in Glen Oaks
I bought you a red Cadillac
I bought you with all of my money
now there’s nothing left holding you back
I guess that you never did love me
seems like there’s always a fight
but a new dining room and a big swimming pool
got you to sleep every night
so go see your folks up in Natchez
if you can find your own way
there’s a man up the street with a pontoon boat
you might make it in a couple of days
I ain’t never felt so lost, so deep
when I turned that rusty key
and I knew that that angry old river
gone and washed it all out to sea
you have honored your side of the bargain
as faithful as you ought be
now there’s nothing left standing between us
but this boxful of broken debris
